After Trump renamed AI to SI, four-letter .si registrations rose 10x

What happened

On September 29, 2026, Trump signed an executive order directing federal agencies to rename "Artificial Intelligence" to "Super Intelligence" — SI. The White House published a fact sheet on September 30.

And .si is Slovenia's country-code top-level domain, launched in 1992, with no connection to AI at all.

What we did

On October 8, 2026, we pulled the RDAP records for all 18,125 four-letter .si names (aaaa–zzzz). Every record carries a creation date, so you can see exactly which day the rush started — not guess from search trends.

Results

PeriodRegistrationsDaysPer day
Jun–Aug376924.1
Sep 1–289002832.1
Sep 29+324010324.0

Before the order (Sep 1–28) the rate was 32.1 per day; after it (Sep 29–Oct 8) 324.0 per day — 10.1x. Over the summer (Jun–Aug) it was just 4.1 per day.

Two surprises

① 43.0% were already taken. 7,790 of the 18,125 are registered; 4,550 of those predate the order — four-letter names are scarce on any TLD. The other 3,240 are this wave.

② Most of what's left is debris. Of the 10,335 names marked available, few read as anything — pube, jism, msmr, aaae. The generation rule only constrained "4 letters total", never meaning.

What about the same names on .com?

We ran the identical 18,125 names against .com (Verisign RDAP). Available: zero. 18,069 are confirmed registered and 56 lookups failed — not one was free. With 0 hits in 18,069 tries, the 95% upper bound on the true availability rate is just 0.017% (rule of three). The median registration year is 2000, and by 2005 93.2% were already taken — while the same names on .si have a median registration year of 2026, a 26-year gap. Of the 10,335 names still free on .si, none is free on .com.

Scope and limits

· The sample is 18,125 four-letter names, not all of .si — the accurate claim is "four-letter .si registrations were up 10x", not ".si registrations were up 10x".
· Letters only — no digits or hyphens.
· Census taken 2026-10-08 01:17–09:56 (UTC+8); that day is incomplete.
· The jump and the executive order are correlated in time; this is not proof of causation, though it is the most plausible explanation.

Using the data

Our TLD value ranking and domain lookup run on the same dataset. Lookups go straight from your browser to the registry's RDAP — nothing passes through our server.
